Reading Promotion
Below are actual examples of programs I created with my school media specialist to promote books and a love of reading. We brought authors in each year and students could listen to them talk, ask questions, get books signed and meet them. We started with around 25 students attending the first year to over 400 students including a large amount from outside school districts attending in our fourth year. The event grew in popularity and encouraged the students to either read the books beforehand (so they could put a face with the author and ask questions) or for them to read the books after. We saw a large uptake in checking out and reading the books from the authors who came into our school for these events. Many students continued to read these authors' books well beyond the event and waited for new books to come out.
